a place to learn

School tour groups are welcome at the State Mine
The Lithgow State Mine Heritage Park & Railway is a wonderful place for groups to learn in a beautiful and stimulating environment. We can provide a range of experiences which link to the following New South Wales school Key Learning Areas:

Human Society & its Environment:
  • Allows students direct experience on a historical worksite and to explore former work practices and living conditions.
  • Environmental rehabilitation of a former industrial site.

Science & Technology:

  • Natural resource extraction and the ultimate use of minerals and energy.

Mathematics:

  • Practical application of measurement

Located on the former Lithgow State Coal Mine site the park provides a broad range of environments in which students can engage with the material culture of coalmining, rail transport and blacksmithing.

The bushland environment of the Lithgow State Coal Mine also provides substantial opportunities for students to explore montane sandstone environments, environmental rehabilitation and catchment management issues.

The site is also ideal for visual and creative arts activities.
